Abstract

The various functions of fibronectin are based on the functional properties of fibronectin itself and the wide distribution in human body fluids and tissues. At present, the use of fibronectin is on the increase for regeneration and new attachment of periodontal tissue.
In this review of literature, the production, classification, structures and the functions of fibronectin were discussed and the action mechanisms of fibronectin at periodontal surgery were compared.
The following results were obtained ;
1. Fibronectin is a large glycoprotein which is found in cell surfaces, C. T matrices, extracellular fluids and blood, and have a wide variety of functions, which including the cell attachment, oncogenic transformation, phagocytosis and hemostasis.
2. The application of fibronectin after demineralization of root surfaces with citric acid(pH 1.0) or tetracycline Hcl promotes the C. T new attachment.
3. Fibronectin offers the favorable conditions for C. T new attachment by chemoattractant effect and opsonic properties, and promotes the wound hewing by postoperative hemostasis and microvascular anastomoses.
4. Currently, more interest is being focused on the Autologous fibronectin(LAP)rather than the exogenous fibronectin for regeneration and new attachment of periodontal tissue.
